Memorial Day Weekend

These past 3 days had its ups and downs.
For the ups...
Steve came up from Kansas on Saturday.
Marie flew in from Denver.
Geoff is back from Australia.
Lynne didn't have to work on Saturday.
The weather was really nice.

For the downs...
I was [and am still] sick. All I do is cough, sleep, and have a froggy voice.
Not enough days with my family

To get to the reason for the weekend. We are forever grateful for the military men and women who gave their life for their country. I can not express my gratitude enough to them and their families. Thank you.

Until next time...

Baby, It's hot outside!

Today I took the girls, Cricket and Nattie to the vet. Well, $200.00 later, they're up-to-date with shots and heart worm meds.
Lynne and I went to Okoboji on Saturday to attend my niece's HS graduation party. It was a very nice party and it was great to see other relatives and friends. Sadie will be attending UNI next fall.
Another niece, Leandra, graduated on Sunday and had her party then also. We were unable to attend her celebration.
My good friend, Terri and I drove to Minneapolis to pick Geoff up at the airport. He's finally home after 4 months in Australia. On JUNE 6th he heads to Ankorage, Alaska, to work at Lake Marie Lodge as a tour boat captain for the summer.
Today it was VERY HOT outside. It was 93 degrees at 5:00pm. WHEW!
Gonna close for now. Gotta find a fan!

Winding down.....

Only 11 official student school days left of the 2009-2010 school year! Then I have about 5 work days to complete after that.
On June 8th, my good friend Terri, and I are heading to Wichita, KS, for a few days. Steve is taking June 11th off to take us to some salt mines somewhere near Wichita. Terri and I are going to the Museum of World Treasures, the Art Museum, going to ride the city bus to downtown Wichita and tour and take pictures there, plus Steve is going to take us to the theatre where you watch the movie and can eat dinner & drink toddies too!
This weekend two nieces graduate from HS: Sadie Range from Okoboji HS & Leandra Reiter from Le Mars HS. Olivia Coronado (Central Springs) & Kaleb Johnson (West Hancock) also graduate. CONGRATULATIONS, GUYS!
Geoff flies home to the USA on Sunday. We should see him on the 26th or so. Steve comes up on the 28th for Memorial Day Weekend.
Well, I better close for now - I have a Dr's appt. soon.

Rainy Days and Mondays Always get Me Down

Actually I don't mind rainy days as long there are not a lot of them in a row! Now Mondays......
I had a nice Happy Mother's Day. On Friday, I received flowers from Marie, Geoff and Lynne. On Sunday, Lynne and I went to Milford to visit my dad, and Tina, Kevin & Sadie. Geoff called from Australia to wish me a happy day late Sunday night. I also had various text messages on the cell phone. All in all, a nice day.
The weather here is crappy. Very cold. At least no snow! Rain today and tomorrow.
Only 3 actual weeks of school days left! The time will go fast! There will be a lot of books to check in when they are returned!
Geoff flies home on May 23rd. YEAH! He's bringing me home a magnet from Australia for my fridge, you know. And a shot glass for Terri, too! Then he's off to work in Alaska for the summer on JUN 6!
Lynne went out job hunting today. She has her application in at several places. At least now she has a car so she won't need to use mine.
I'm trying to keep this blog upbeat, but that gets hard sometimes. I'm still waiting for contracts to come out at the schools. My hours were cut at BK and that puts me down to 3/4 time instead of full-time. My other 2 schools didn't cut my hours but they didn't add any either. It's all so frustrating!
Tonight I have a Catholic Daughters mtg. That will last from 7-9+pm. It really takes up the evening. I don't usually mind unless I'm tired; then the meeting seems to go on and on.
I'm ready to start a new book. Any ideas?
Well, I'm going to close for now. See you another time.

back in the saddle again...

OK. One of my New Year's resolutions was to keep up a journal/blog about my life, etc. This is about me.

Today there was frost on the grass and my furnace is going. Keep in mind it is May 9th! Yesterday some place in Wisconsin got 6" of snow. WHO KNEW?!?

BTW, Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers! I received a bouquet of flowers from my 3 children - Marie, Geoff, & Lynne. It was delivered to my school on Friday. I have such good kids. I love them dearly - with or without flowers. :)

I just finished the book "Night Road" by A.M. Jenkins. It was different. A sort of male vampire book, not romanticized like "Twilight" or "Dead in Dallas." In fact the characters are hemovores or humans who feeds exclusively on blood; not to be confused with the fictional vampire of popular legend. A very different take on the vampire trend in books. Summary: Cole is asked to take a newly created heme out for training and Cole thinks he can handle it, but accidents can happen. It's not my favorite book, but I liked it.

Now I am reading "The Everafter" by Amy Huntley. To quote the catalog card summary - After her death, 17-tear-old Maddy finds a way to revisit moments in her life by using objects that she lost while she was alive, and by so doing she tries to figure out the complicated emotions, events, and meaning of her existence. I just started it so no opinion yet.

I read about 8 books a month and often have 2 or more books going at one time. With the summer coming up, it will be more than that. I can't wait!

Please keep these people in your prayers: my sister-in law Kellie Sherrill who recently broke both bones in her right forearm in a fall; nieces Sadie Range & Leandra Reiter who will soon graduate from high school and Lakin Stevicks who just graduated from ISU; Julie Allen who recently lost one of her beloved dogs to illness; Denise Anderson who has lost both parents in less than a year; my aunt Mary Margaret Beasley and her daughter Mary Killen who's grandson and son, Chris Brooks, recently passed away, and all the aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives of Chris - especially his son Bryce. Although we don't often tell you enough, you are in our thoughts every day.

Lynne is home for the summer. I'm not used to having another person here. It will take some getting used to. She's planning on getting a job. Soon, I hope!

Steve is planning to come up over Memorial Day weekend. Geoff will be home from Australia then too, so that will be nice when we all get together. Geoff flies back to the USA on May 23rd.

Well, until next time, love to you all.
